Using Dublin Core application profiles to manage diverse metadata dDevelopments

Abstract

This paper discusses the use of Dublin Coreapplication profiles at the British Library as part of aresource discovery strategy. It shows how they can beused to control the proliferation of metadata formats indigitisation activity and provide interoperability at ahigh level between diverse legacy systems. Atechnicalarchitecture is described. This allows the use of Dublin Core based metadata to support cross-searching of multiple disparate databases.
