Modeling Cultural Evolution with Metadata Collections

Nicholas M. Weber, Andrea K. Thomer

Abstract

Descriptive metadata is typically used to record
information about digital artifacts. Collections of descriptive metadata records
can also be used to study institutional attributes of the cultures that produce,
use, and cooperate in provisioning digital artifacts. In this poster we describe
an approach to modeling cultural evolution, phylomemetic analysis, using
collections of metadata records that describe digital artifacts.
